BARNSLEY WEIR BRIDGE

QMF Construction was awarded the concrete works package by Robson Civil projects to construct a new bridge over Cockle Creek in the Lake Macquarie suburb of Barnsley. The existing weir was constructed between 1925 and 1927 as part of the Cockle Creek power station, effectively functioning as a dam. Over the years the weir has been maintained for traffic but had reached a point where it became unsafe and was damaged by recent flooding of the area. Funding was secured to build a new bridge to replace the weir, this will ensure continued traffic movements and an increase to road safety in an area experiencing rapid population growth.

Scope of works included but was not limited to:

  • Abutments

  • Pile caps

  • Wing walls

  • Approach slabs

  • Bridge Deck

  • Concrete barriers

  • Cantilevered walkway

Works completed July 2022
